Thomas Jeffrey "Tom" Hanks is an American actor, writer, producer and director. Hanks work in television and family friendly comedies, gaining broad notice in 1988's Big, before achieve success as a dramatic actor in some notable roles, including Andrew Beckett in Philadelphia, the title role in Forrest Gump, Commander James A. Lovell in Apollo 13, Captain John H. Miller in save Private Ryan, Joe Fox in You have Got Mail and Chuck Noland in Cast Away. Hanks won consecutive Best Actor Academy Awards, in 1993 for Philadelphia and in 1994 for Forrest Gump. U.S. domestic box office total for his films beat $3.9 billion. He is the father of actor Colin Hanks.

Hanks have made donations to several Democratic politicians and have been open about his sustain for same sex marriage, environmental causes and alternative fuels. A supporter of NASA's manned space program, Hanks said that he initially wanted to be an astronaut but "didn't have the math."
